How to Create a Healthy Workspace
Creating a healthy workspace is not just about decorating your desk. Inspiration is great, but having a workspace and routine that works with your body can take your productivity to the next level.
Let’s discuss some of the things that make for a healthy office:
Walk Around During Breaks
Before we begin talking about investing in furniture/equipment, let’s discuss the importance of movement.
Desk jobs frequently encourage a sedentary lifestyle. If you happen to get into the zone while working on a project, hours may pass before you realize you’ve been hunched over for most of them.
An easy way to implement movement into your routine is to take walks during your normal breaks. Every time you get up to use the restroom or refill your water bottle, take a few extra laps. These can be around the office or even outside for a quick breath of fresh air.
Invest In Ergonomic Office Furniture
If walking just isn’t cutting it, it might be time for you to invest in ergonomic furniture. This may include investing in an ergonomic desk like a standing desk or buying a special chair to help decrease back pain. If you are unable to change the furniture in your office, you may want to invest in a lumbar pillow that can easily be added to any chair.
If you spend more than a few hours at the desk each day, it is worth it to invest in your wellness and the ergonomics of your office furniture.
Adjust the Height of Your Monitor
Another addition you can add to your desk to help with posture is a monitor stand. These work to raise your computer screen a few inches so that it is parallel with your eyes. This reduces neck strain and improves your posture.
Additionally, monitor stands often have the ability to support dual monitors. This can also allow for increased productivity, which is never a bad thing!
Invest in Your Recovery
A lot of people find relaxation in watching movies on the couch after work. While this can be both physically and mentally relieving, it does not truly give your body the chance to stretch and unwind after sitting all day. Investing in a recovery routine that you can do right after clocking out is the best way to increase post-work relaxation.
One of our favorite techniques to unwind is to use a muscle massage gun. Our line of Vibra96 massage guns use percussion therapy to work the stress and knots out of your shoulders, neck, and back. Additionally, deep tissue massage relaxes the body for better sleep (which you’ll need after this boost of productivity!)
Feel Better and Work Better
The best way to increase your productivity is to invest in a healthy workspace. Using the tips listed above, you can easily make your desk fit your specific health needs.
